Bitumen from north-eastern Mesopotamian seeps was exchanged across the Tigris and Euphrates in antiquity. Nonetheless, recent research proposed a decline its trade during Bronze Age alongside boost of central (Hit) trade. This paper presents new provenance studies ancient bitumen recovered at Tell Lashkir, 4th-2nd millennium BC settlement between lower upper Zab tributaries. The novel application Bayesian mixing models to biomarker isotopic data has narrowed down identification putative sources improved apportionment mixtures. placed Lashkir within pathway active routes Age. Thus, population inhabiting participated exchange networks which reached southern Mesopotamia, traded with natural resources most probably originating Mesopotamia. From methodological standpoint, appraisal our study modern archaeological reference samples provided better understanding strengths limitations such an approach apportion several age territories.
